Dandelion Time
Competition win for a new therapy centre and headquarters building for UK charity Dandelion Time 2017
The charity specifically wished to commission natural architecture that nurtured not just the visible but also the unseen forces that create a healthy and pleasant set of spaces that would support those who use them. They wanted the new buildings to give a comfortable and warm impression to the families that they help, and provide an iconic magical destination for them, far from the cares of the external world, a place where they could reconnect with themselves, with the arts and with nature. The use of underlying geometry, natural materials and curved forms aims to create this natural sense of well-being and of ‘coming home’. The project programme is still to be confirmed.
“It’s magnificent, really excellent! Can you imagine being a kid, or an adult, and arriving at a campus like that? They will LOVE it. For fundraising it is much easier if people are inspired. That design is also leaving a legacy.” Ian Barrett (QS)
“I love it, it’s really unusual. Kids will go through those gateways and feel like they’re in a different world.” Julian Bore (Lloyd-Bore Assoc.)
